Aged care leaders champions of change

Members elect Ageing Australia Board Directors

At our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November, Ageing Australia members elected two Board Directors who will help to drive the strategic direction of Ageing Australia, and the success of our organisation, our members and our sector.

We welcomed Tim Humphries as Elected Director for Victoria and congratulated Jackie Howard on her re-election as Elected Director for Tasmania. Both Directors bring strong governance skills and valuable sector experience to help guide our organisation’s vision over the next three years.

“We have an incredible pool of leadership talent in aged care,” said Ageing Australia Chief Executive Officer Tom Symondson. “Leaders like Tim and Jackie are already driving change within their organisations, and having their expertise and insight help guide our work is a huge benefit – not just for Ageing Australia, but for the older Australians we all support.”

“The calibre of all those who nominated was outstanding, and I want to thank each person for putting themselves forward and for your ongoing commitment to improving the lives of older Australians.”

For the past 12 years, Tim has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Homestyle Aged Care, which operates 10 residential aged care homes across Melbourne and Geelong. Among his credentials are a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Business Administration, giving him strong acumen across business and finance. He is also a Fellow of CPA Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Having already served on the Board of Directors for three years, Jackie will continue to bring valuable input based on more than 35 years of experience in human services. An experienced health and aged care executive and non-executive director, Jackie was formerly Chief Executive Officer of Masonic Care Tasmania, which offers customised residential and community-based aged care services.

At the AGM, Ageing Australia members also voted in favour of two Special Resolutions – including officially changing our company name to Ageing Australia and another to update our Constitution. This means our legal name now proudly aligns with the brand identity we’ve embraced since January 2025. It also strengthens our ability to act as the trusted, unified voice for providers across the aged care and ageing sector.

“It was wonderful to see such strong member representation at our AGM,” said Tom. “It was an important milestone for Ageing Australia – a chance to reflect on the year, hear from our leaders and share key announcements together.

“We are absolutely stronger together, and I’m continually encouraged by the work that happens behind the scenes, with members contributing in so many ways to our strategic direction and advocacy efforts.

“I look forward to continuing to work alongside our members as we expand our efforts in 2026 – for the sector and for the older Australians who rely on us.”
