Ageing Australia is helping to build a stronger, more confident nursing workforce equipped to meet the challenges ahead, through our Aged Care Transition to Practice Program (ACTTP).
The ACTTP is a fully funded, nationwide program designed to support registered and enrolled nurses as they begin or transition into careers in aged care.
Delivered in partnership with aged and community care organisations across Australia, the ACTTP program addresses a critical workforce need, aiming to reduce turnover and build long-term capability within the sector.

“Our ACTTP program combines structured learning, mentorship and industry partnerships to empower nurses and equip them with the confidence, skills and professionalism the sector needs.”
The ACTTP program uses a blended learning approach that combines live sessions, mentorship and real-world case studies.
This initiative is particularly timely. The aged care sector is projected to face a shortfall of over 17,500 full-time nurses by 2035, despite ongoing reforms and increased investment in wages and funding
The ACTTP program directly addresses this by helping providers recruit and retain skilled nurses capable of meeting new care standards, including the requirement for 24/7 registered nurse coverage in every aged care home.
“With aged care nurses seeing historic changes – from wage increases to new models of care – the program offers vital support to help them succeed and stay in the sector,” Mr Symondson added.
Funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the ACTTP program is available in every State and Territory and welcomes registrations from aged and community care providers interested in supporting the next generation of aged care nurses.
