Leaders and experts from across aged care will gather in Melbourne tomorrow to help shape the future of home and community care, at Ageing Australia’s landmark CHSP summit.
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) currently helps around 835,000 older Australians live independently.
The Summit will focus on building the sector’s collective vision for home-based care in the new world of Support at Home, which commences on 1 November. CHSP is projected to move into the program after mid 2027.
“This is a crucial opportunity for providers and experts alike to come together, shape priorities and ensure the reforms deliver sustainable care for older Australians,” said ageing Australia CEO Tom Symondson.
“Australians overwhelmingly want to age at home, connected to their communities, for as long as possible.”
“CHSP has been delivering on that promise for years. This summit is about putting it centre stage, celebrating its success and charting course for a future where CHSP’s strengths turbo charge Support at Home,” he said.
Mr Symondson will open the Summit and reflect on CHSP’s role in supporting dignity, independence and connection.
“This is not just about designing a program,” Mr Symondson said, “it’s about protecting the services older Australians rely on every day and making sure providers are ready to meet the needs of a rapidly ageing nation.”
Insights from the Summit will be captured in a principles and recommendations paper, prepared by Ageing Australia, for the government .
