The Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC) was formed with the express intent of promoting the evidenced-based benefits of incorporating innovation and technology in aged and community care.
In collaboration with the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) the ACIITC is investigating Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) clinical use of clinical software.
The ACIITC believes the survey is valuable to capture a snapshot of how RACF are currently placed in respect to clinical software and its use or not use. The data collected by this survey will provide evidence for future projects and support for aged care.
The Department of Health (DoH) reports a total of 2,772 Residential Aged Care Operational Aged Care services as of 30 June 2020 (Department of Health 2020). This survey aims to include all rural, remote, regional, and metro RACF to gain a national perspective of the use of clinical software.
The target audience for this survey is RACFs. ACIITC asks organisations to ensure that the person overseeing clinical software implementation is the representative completing this survey.
The ACIITC report Capabilities in Aged & Community Care Readiness: An Evaluation of Innovation & Technology (CARE-IT) 2020 Report identified the most widely used clinical governance systems (other than financial management) are e-learning software, CRM systems, clinical governance systems, planning and budget software, risk management software and asset management systems. The Report further defined at the stage of the Report, the normal is for separate consumer records to be held by financial, clinical, rostering, and administration teams. Interestingly, financial teams’ usage (44%) is reported to be higher than that of clinical teams (35.8%), followed by rostering teams (26.6%) and administration teams (22%).
The ACIITC will use the data from this survey, along with findings from focus groups involving national survey providers, general practitioners, and technology experts in an industry report highlighting the use of clinical software used in RACF.
